This week, the House of Representatives passed the Affordable Housing Over Mandating Efficiency Standards (HOMES) Act. The bill aims to address rising housing costs by streamlining federal oversight of manufactured housing, which supporters say is one of the most affordable options available. Representative Paul Gosar stated, “I proudly voted in favor of this legislation to help reduce housing costs, increase supply, and keep the American Dream of homeownership within reach for hardworking families.”

Gosar also voted against the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill. He cited concerns over funding for sanctuary cities and what he described as wasteful earmarks and ideological grant programs. According to Gosar, “Bottom line: I will not vote to fund sanctuary cities, activist slush funds, or earmarks that fuel fraud and undermine the rule of law. America is drowning in debt — and Congress must stop financing the dysfunction.” He emphasized support for appropriations bills that fund core government functions but opposed what he called “pork” and backroom deals.

In economic news, national gasoline prices have declined at the start of 2026. The average price dropped to $2.83 per gallon nationwide—the lowest in several months—according to new data released this week. Prices continue to vary by state; Hawaii remains highest at $4.42 per gallon while Oklahoma is lowest at $2.24 per gallon. Increased refinery output and lower seasonal demand have contributed to falling prices. Analysts expect further decreases into January and February.

For Arizona residents, these trends are notable as local prices often exceed national averages due to specific requirements but remain below peaks seen in 2022 when prices neared $5 per gallon. Policies implemented by congressional Republicans and former President Trump are credited with stabilizing energy markets through expanded domestic production and reduced regulations.

The U.S. recently announced a deal with Venezuela for approximately $2 billion in oil exports to American buyers following political changes in Venezuela’s leadership. This move could ease fuel supply constraints in the U.S., potentially supporting jobs related to refining and distribution.

Gosar’s office highlighted constituent services through correspondence received from residents seeking assistance with federal agencies such as Medicare applications.

Additionally, Gosar responded to concerns about U.S.-Venezuela relations after recent developments involving Venezuelan leadership: “President Trump’s successful operation to apprehend Maduro marks a decisive victory for American security and leadership in the Western Hemisphere.”

Representative Gosar continues his role representing Arizona’s 9th Congressional District after defeating Quacy Smith in 2024 with 65.3% of the vote.
