This week, Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona’s 9th Congressional District released his weekly newsletter, covering a range of legislative and local updates.
Gosar announced that he voted in favor of the SAVE America Act. According to Gosar, “the bill requires proof of citizenship to register and a government-issued photo ID to vote—common-sense safeguards that already apply to everyday activities like flying, buying alcohol, or even joining a gym.” He criticized Democratic opposition to the bill, stating: “Democrats oppose these protections because loose rules and weak verification invite abuse, especially as nearly 20 million illegal aliens entered the country under the previous administration, increasing the risk posed by sloppy voter rolls.” He further argued, “If you need valid identification to buy a six-pack of beer or some Marlboro Lights, board an airplane, shop at Costco, or join a gym, you should absolutely need it to vote. The idea that voting should have fewer safeguards than everyday transactions is absurd.”
On government funding issues, Gosar blamed Democrats for a recent shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security. He said: “Once again, Democrats have chosen chaos over country this week, deliberately forcing a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security after the House passed a bipartisan, full-year funding bill. By blocking DHS funding at the last possible moment, Democrats in Congress are knowingly putting national security at risk—forcing TSA agents, Coast Guard members, Secret Service personnel, and FEMA responders to work without pay…” He added: “This shutdown is entirely manufactured…Republicans did their job; Democrats walked away from a deal and are now holding Americans hostage to score political points…”
Gosar also commented on regulatory changes related to automobiles: “In a long-overdue return to common sense, the Trump administration has finally pulled the plug on a pile of Obama-era EPA rules that treated drivers like lab rats—chief among them the universally despised auto start-stop mandate.” He described ending these requirements as “a welcome dose of sanity—proof that policy doesn’t have to ignore real-world experience to satisfy bureaucratic theory.”
Addressing economic news from January 2026, Gosar highlighted positive job growth figures. He wrote: “New data released this week show that the economy added 172,000 new private-sector jobs and shed 42,000 government jobs – bringing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%. In fact, the number of new jobs added in January was more than double economists’ predictions…” He attributed these results to current federal policies: “America’s economic momentum is undeniable…Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and Republicans in Congress…The tax savings from the One Big Beautiful Bill are putting more money in paychecks…”
Additionally, Gosar announced details for students interested in participating in this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s 9th District. The competition is open through April 1st for high school students across various educational settings.
Paul Gosar has represented Arizona’s 9th District since 2011 after replacing Ann Kirkpatrick. He won reelection in both 2022 and 2024 by significant margins over Richard Grayson and Quacy Smith respectively. More background information shows that he was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1958 and currently lives in Bullhead City. Gosar graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981.
The newsletter also featured local photography submissions from constituents and provided links to recent media coverage about his work.
