The Mohave County Board of Supervisors announced on March 24 that its members may attend the America’s 250th Birthday Lincoln Day Dinner scheduled for April 25 at the Optimum Community Center in Bullhead City. The notice states that no legal action will be discussed or taken during the event.

This announcement is intended to inform both board members and the public about potential gatherings where a quorum may be present, in compliance with Arizona’s open meeting laws. The dinner will begin with a social hour at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m.

The notice comes as educational outcomes remain a topic of concern in Mohave County. During the 2022-23 school year, 69.4% of students in grades three through eight did not pass the mathematics section of the AASA assessment, while 64% failed the English section. High schoolers faced similar challenges, with 77% failing mathematics and 65% failing English on the ACT exam.

There have been some improvements in recent assessments. In the most recent academic year, 22% of high school students passed mathematics on the ACT, and 31.9% of third through eighth graders passed mathematics on the AASA exam.

Laura Skubal, Clerk of the Board for Mohave County Board of Supervisors, posted and dated this notice to ensure transparency regarding public official attendance at community events.
