Nineteen days into the ongoing government shutdown, Representative Paul Gosar criticized Senate Democrats, including Arizona Senators Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly, for what he described as their role in keeping the government closed. According to Gosar, “Democrats have made it abundantly clear they care more about appeasing their Marxist base than they care about the American people.”
Gosar stated that House Republicans had passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open over three weeks ago, but Senate Democrats have voted against it ten times. He said, “Let me repeat: ten times Senate Democrats have now voted to keep hardworking Americans WITHOUT PAY and to put ILLEGALS OVER CITIZENS!”
He outlined several impacts of the shutdown, noting that thousands of federal employees are working without pay and veterans cannot access certain services. Programs for farmers, small business loans, home purchases affected by lapses in flood insurance policies, delays at airports due to fewer air traffic controllers, and potential disruptions to assistance programs like WIC and SNAP were among the consequences listed.
Gosar emphasized Republican efforts: “I will continue to point out that it has been 28 days since House Republicans passed legislation to keep the government open. In fact, Republicans have voted 13 times to pass clean funding bills while the Democrats had the majority the past four years with a Democrat in the White House.” He accused Democrats of causing a shutdown to fund benefits for undocumented immigrants.
On border security, Gosar cited data from Customs and Border Patrol indicating a significant drop in illegal crossings near Yuma in 2025. He attributed this change to new enforcement policies under President Trump. Yuma sector border Chief Justin De La Torre was quoted saying: “We are applying an immediate consequence, either expedited removal or a prosecution for illegal entry in the United States. The message is out, we’re averaging three people a day arrested for our 126 miles of border.”
Gosar also commented on recent indictments involving former officials James Comey and Letitia James as well as former National Security Advisor John Bolton. He claimed these actions were not politically motivated retaliation but consequences of their own conduct.
