Republican U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. announced on March 9 that he was placing himself on quarantine after coming into contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

“I have been informed that during the CPAC conference members of my staff and I came into contact with an individual who has since tested positive for, and is hospitalized for, COVID-19," he said in a statement. "I was with the individual for an extended period of time, and we shook hands several times."

At this time, Gosar said that he is not having any symptoms of COVID-19 but in order to avoid transmitting the virus, he will be undergoing a self-quarantine for a 14-day period. As of March 9, none of Gosar's staff showed symptoms of infection either, however, his Washington, D.C. office will close to allow all employees to telecommute.

"As we learn more about COVID-19, it is imperative to heed the advice and guidance from the CDC and medical professionals," Gosar said. "President (Donald) Trump and Vice President (Mike) Pence have assembled an incredible team and I have been in contact with the CDC and the House Office of the Attending Physician.”
