CITY OF TEMPE: New webinars from Dementia Friendly begin July 14

City of Tempe issued the following announcement on July 8.

How can you minimize the stress of traveling? What are some ways to stay connected at home? How can caregivers better care for themselves?

Dementia Friendly Tempe Presents invites the community to explore these issues during a new webinar series beginning Wednesday, July 14. This free series is designed to raise community awareness of memory loss conditions and help families access available resources.

Dementia Friendly Tempe Presents is offered on the second Wednesday of each month, from 1 – 2 p.m. 

Upcoming sessions are:

July 14: Travel Well with Dementia (Jan Dougherty)

Staying connected to family and friends, attending celebrations and seeing new parts of the world are all part of living well with dementia. However, without adequate planning and adaptations, travel will be challenging. Learn how to minimize the stress of travel and maximize enjoyment.

Aug 11: Engaging at Home (Jennifer Clancy, ALLE & Sherri Friend, Oakwood Creative Care)

Staying connected and having meaning doesn’t end with a dementia diagnosis. But most caregivers struggle to find activities that work. During this session, caregivers will learn how to facilitate very innovative interactive and creative activities from the comfort of home.

Sept. 8: Is it the Blues or Something Else? (Dr. Marianne McCarthy)

Caring for a person living with dementia can add stress for almost all caregivers. Some may feel more anxious and many are at risk for depression. During this session, caregivers will learn how to care for their mental health and when extra care may be needed.
