Drowning in Bridgewater Channel

Drowning

City of Lake Havasu City issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

On August 26, 2021 at approximately 6:10 p.m. officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were dispatched to the north end of the Bridgewater Channel for a possible drowning. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male subject, identified as 30-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Garrett Hansen, on the shoreline.

A citizen had found Hansen submerged in the Bridgewater Channel while paddle boarding through the area, and with the help of other bystanders, removed him from the water. Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but Hansen succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and the exact circumstances leading up to the drowning are currently unknown. However, Hansen was estimated to have been under the water for approximately 20-40 minutes before being located, and he had been observed by several citizens in the area behaving strangely while going in and out of the water alone during the hour prior to the incident. Foul play is not suspected.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department. Anonymous information can be called into Lake Havasu Silent Witness at 928-854-TIPS (8477).
