Marco Lopez for Governor issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
My statement on President Joe Biden's nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson:
“I applaud President Biden for nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who, upon confirmation, will make the court the most inclusive and diverse it has ever been with four women and five men. Arizona’s own Justice Sandra Day O’Connor made history as the first female Supreme Court Justice and I look forward to seeing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson make history as the first Black woman to serve on our nation’s highest court.
Representation matters. As stated in my Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination plan, I will build an administration that will represent all of Arizona, from the selection of my cabinet and staff, to my appointments to state boards and commissions. In particular, I will appoint more minorities and women to serve on the Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments and on the Coconino, Maricopa, Pima and Pinal County Commissions on Trial Court Appointments. Diverse commissions foster more diverse applicant pools to consider when it comes time to recommend individuals to the governor for appointment to the bench.”
