About 2pm Wednesday (3/16) afternoon, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Lake Mead National Park Service to help a 20-year-old female hiker who had broken her ankle while hiking along a trail towards the Colorado River. She was hiking with three other friends, but her injury prevented her from moving. National Park Service brought rescuers up the river to a nearby location, where they hiked towards her and National Park Service Rangers hiked to her from the trailhead. Due to her injuries and remote location, and no local air rescue resources available – a Blackhawk helicopter from the Air Force responded to assist. The Blackhawk hoisted her up and then transferred her to an awaiting medical helicopter where she was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. The other three hikers were transported back to join other members in their group. Great job by everyone!
