Make money, have fun and help others! Tempe is looking for motivated people who are interested in becoming a lifeguard, swim coach or swim instructor for the Kiwanis, Clark, Escalante and McClintock pools.

Starting at $17 an hour, lifeguards are taught valuable life skills, such as lifesaving techniques, teamwork, responsibility and leadership, and help keep their community safe. It’s a perfect job for students, with flexible summer hours. No experience is necessary.

Interested in a rewarding job as a lifeguard? Follow these steps:

1.    Submit an application

o    Must be 15 years old, applications can be found online at tempe.gov/lifeguard

2.    Pass a skills test

o     Swim 200 yards, tread water without hands for two minutes and submerge up to 12 feet and retrieve an object

3.    Get certified

o    Sign up for the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training Course, certification is reimbursed upon hiring

Not old enough but still interested in lifeguarding? Check out the volunteer Junior Guard program, available for ages 12-15 years.
