Congressman Paul Gosar has expressed approval following the successful committee markup of H.R. 7365, known as the Veterans Expedited TSA Screening (VETS) Safe Travel Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to provide expedited security screening under the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) PreCheck program for severely injured or disabled veterans.
“I am pleased that my bipartisan and common-sense legislation providing injured or disabled veterans a safer and more dignified experience when passing through domestic airport security checkpoints by enrolling them in the expedited PreCheck program free of charge was unanimously marked up in committee," stated Congressman Gosar. He also extended his gratitude to Chairman Mark Green for advancing legislation that addresses challenges faced by disabled veterans during travel.
Gosar emphasized, "No American veteran, particularly disabled veterans, should be hassled at our airports. With this successful committee markup, it is time Speaker Johnson brings the VETS Safe Travel Act to the House floor for a final vote."
The VETS Safe Travel Act was introduced by Congressman Gosar on February 15, 2024. The bill stipulates that the Department of Veterans Affairs would certify a veteran as severely injured, making them eligible to apply for the TSA PreCheck program at no cost. TSA would then process these applications, granting access to the PreCheck program upon successful completion of a background check and interview process.
According to TSA estimates, approximately 400,000 veterans could benefit from this free PreCheck screening program.
