City of Kingman issued the following announcement on Nov. 25

Congressman Paul A. Gosar D.D.S. released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announced the winners of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, “I am pleased to report that the Kingman Municipal Airport as well Prescott Regional Airport were the recipients of AIP grants, a much-needed infusion for rehabilitation and construction. These airports are key drivers of our economy in Arizona's fourth congressional district, and this additional funding will allow them to expand, modernize, and continue operations vital to our community,” said Congressman Paul Gosar.

“This is an exciting time! It will rehabilitate our main runway to help develop transportation loading and multimodal transportation logistics. It is an important piece of infrastructure that will help keep Kingman competitive," said Mayor Jen Miles.

“We cannot thank Representative Gosar enough for his support of our economic development in the region,” said Kingman City Manager Ron Foggin. “The Kingman Airport and Industrial Park is the largest industrial park in Arizona, outside the Phoenix area, and this further recognizes our potential for future growth," Foggin said.

The $2.3 million grant is to rehabilitate Kingman’s main runway, which will make it like new. The funding structure is 90% FAA, 5% State of Arizona, 5% city of Kingman. These were additional funds the FAA had, where cities were chosen to receive those funds through a very competitive process. The Kingman Municipal Airport is one of only two airports in Arizona to receive these funds.

Background

The Kingman Municipal Airport has been awarded $2.3 million under the Airport Improvement Program. This airport has a deep history rooted in training Army Air Force aerial gunners in World War II. Today, this airport has two active runways for commercial and business use and services aircrafts with a top of the line repair station. Additionally, the airport houses a 1,100-acre industrial park, which is home to over 70 businesses. This grant will be used to rehabilitate the existing runaways to ensure continual success.
