Mohave County released the results for the primary election, with a 37.75% voter turnout, but the county still needs poll workers for the November general election.
"The overall turnout for the election was slightly higher than comparable elections in the past, which can be attributed to the greater number of people choosing to vote by early ballot than previously done," Mohave County's Elections Director Allen Tempert said in a press release from the county. "The number of poll site ballots cast was comparable to the 2018 primary election.”
While he was happy with the voter turnout, there was “a drastic decrease in the people being able or willing to work the voting polls on Election Day, a successful and smooth election resulted," Tempert said in the press release.
He expects the voting pattern to continue for the November general election, but is wanting to address the issue of staffing for poll sites.
He said staffing "has never been as difficult as this election year" because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The county is looking for registered voters to work the polls in November. Those interested should contact the county Elections Department at 928-753-0733.
