Kingman Fire Department Launching “Future Dispatcher” Contest

Announcement

City of Kingman issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

The Kingman Fire Department is launching the “Future Dispatcher” contest for local 4th and 5th graders. The contest asks these grades to write two paragraphs describing why it’s, “cool to be a dispatcher,” for a chance to win time at the Communications (Dispatch” Center, a KFD polo shirt, and other cool prizes. November 18, 2021, at 6 p.m. is the due date for the essays. They can be emailed to Kingman Fire Chief Jake Rhoades at jrhoades@cityofkingman.gov, or dropped off at the Kingman Fire Administrations Offices located at 412 East Oak Street. Kingman Fire Department Community Risk Reduction Specialists will be dropping off flyers with 4th and 5th graders for kids and parents to review.

Kingman Fire Chief Jake Rhoades said, “This is a fun exercise for us to show kids that there are other important careers within public safety. A dispatcher is the lifeline to our first responders, and is a very rewarding career that a lot of people don’t think of, when we think of public safety in general.”

Kingman Communications Center Manager Deann MacLeod said, “As recently reported, our nationally accredited dispatch center has a great, professional team that takes over 135,000 calls a year and we’re so excited to be able to share this with future dispatchers in our community and hear what our kids have to say.”

This is also part Kingman’s continued effort to showcase different departments during the 20th Anniversary of Arizona Cities and Towns week, and today is the day we showcase public safety within Kingman.
