Congressman Paul A. Gosar has reintroduced the Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act of 2025, also known as H.R. 1994, aiming to boost wind and solar energy production on public lands. In his statement, Representative Gosar criticized the previous administration for making domestic energy production on public lands challenging and emphasized the need for renewable energy as part of a comprehensive national strategy.
Gosar stated that "renewable energy sources like wind and solar should be an integral part of the United States’ all-of-the-above energy strategy." He explained that his legislation seeks to streamline land use to encourage renewable projects on federal lands while ensuring revenue sharing with states and counties. This move is expected to support essential services in rural and western communities.
Frank Macchiarola from American Clean Power (ACP) expressed support for the bill, noting its importance in meeting growing electricity demands driven by economic factors. "The Public Lands Renewable Energy Development Act is key to harnessing these resources," Macchiarola said, highlighting benefits such as enhanced energy security and improved grid reliability.
Kaden McArthur from Backcountry Hunters & Anglers also endorsed the act, emphasizing its potential impact on conservation efforts. "It is critical that thoughtful policies are implemented," he said, advocating for revenue allocation towards fish and wildlife habitat conservation alongside expanding renewable energy.
The bill has gained cosponsorship from Representatives Amodei and LaMalfa and support from groups including the American Clean Power Association, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, and Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
