The City of Kingman is taking part in reminding out community and visitors of the impending long periods of heat, and overnight heat, we face in the coming months. Schools will also be dismissing for summer break, and it’s also a good reminder for folks to be aware of more kids around down during this time.
Kingman City Manager Ron Foggin said, “It’s important to know the signs of heat-related illness and ways to respond, especially while working outdoors. We also need to take a few extra minutes to look both ways for kids on bikes and walking more around town, now that some schools are out of summer break; it’s our job as a community to make safety a priority.”
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to death. Extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards.
