County residents and elected officials showed up in force for a special meeting on September 20 hosted by the Arizona Department of Water Resources. It resulted in standing room only at the Mohave County auditorium in Kingman. This concerned the scarcity of county water and need for an Irrigation Non-Expansion Area (INA) in the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin. The meeting was for comments only and not for any further proceedings on designating an INA at this time.. John Riggins, ADWR Statewide Planning Manager and Emily Lodoice, Groundwater Modeling Section Manager made detailed presentations discussing exactly what an INA is and what it can mean to the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin.
The entire meeting that includes public comments can be seen and heard at the link below on the Mohave County YouTube channel. The Arizona Department of Water Resources will continue to accept comments from Mohave County residents and stakeholders on this important issue until 5 p.m. on September 30.
Residents who wish to participate can contact the department by mail at: Arizona Department of Water Resources, Attn: Sharon Scantlebury, 1110 W. Washington St. Suite 310, Phoenix, AZ 85007.
