Washington, D.C. - Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), has voiced his opposition to H.R. 5692, the Ukraine Security Assistance and Oversight Supplemental Appropriations Act, which appropriates $300 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. In a statement, Gosar stated that he has consistently voted against bills that fund the proxy war in Ukraine and categorically rejects this latest bill.
Gosar emphasized that the United States has already wasted over $100 billion on a war that does not serve its national security interests. Instead, he argued, the focus should be on addressing the sustained attack and invasion at the southern border, with over eight million illegal aliens entering the country.
"Rather than sending another dime to Ukraine, we should put our country first by increasing the pay of our brave service members right here in the United States," Gosar said. He further stressed that American taxpayer dollars should be spent defending the nation's own borders, rather than engaging in "mischief and warmongering" in Ukraine.
The Congressman firmly stated, "If we are going to spend millions of taxpayers’ dollars, it should go to American troops, not foreign soldiers thousands of miles away."
H.R. 5692, if passed, would allocate $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. This funding would be available for Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025, and could be used for training, equipment, intelligence support, and salaries for the Ukrainian military or other groups assisting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
