Washington, D.C. - Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), has expressed his satisfaction after voting in favor of H.R. 4821, the legislation funding the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2024. The bill includes three amendments offered or cosponsored by Congressman Gosar.
In a statement, Congressman Gosar stated, "This budget vote has started the process of undoing the reckless spending and bizarre woke policies implemented by the prior Congress. I am pleased to cast my vote in favor of this important legislation that claws back nearly $10 billion from Biden's green-new deal policies such as the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and radical Environmental and Climate Justice grant program."
One of the key provisions in the legislation prevents the Biden administration from implementing onerous regulations on public land uses, particularly in Arizona. Congressman Gosar emphasized the importance of keeping public lands available for activities such as hunting, fishing, mineral production, and oil and gas leasing.
The funding bill also includes three amendments authored or cosponsored by Congressman Gosar that will have immediate benefits for Arizonans. One of the amendments, Amendment #91, prohibits funding from being used to enforce the proposed rule by the EPA titled "Reconsideration of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter." Congressman Gosar argued that the EPA's proposed rule would set a particulate matter (PM) standard that Maricopa County and other counties in Arizona could never meet, as the PM present in Arizona is naturally occurring.
In his statement, Congressman Gosar stated, "Agencies should be able to recognize the differences between a rainforest and a desert." He emphasized the need for the EPA to consider the world in its natural state, acknowledging that dust and particulate matter will naturally exist in the desert, without any contribution from mankind.
Another amendment, Amendment #92, prohibits the Biden administration from implementing, administering, or enforcing the recent land grab via the Grand Canyon National Monument designation. Congressman Gosar argued that the monument designation goes against the multiple-use doctrine for public lands and does not generate any new revenue or employment opportunities. He also expressed his concern over the federal government's control of land in Arizona.
Lastly, Congressman Gosar teamed up with Representative Nehls to offer Amendment #63, which prohibits funds for the National Park Service to place any limitation on the number of air tours at national parks. Congressman Gosar believes that air tours are an important option for many visitors who wish to experience famous natural landmarks. He argued that radical leftists have been attempting to shut down the air tour industry, and this amendment aims to prevent the park service from hindering Americans and tourism.
Congressman Gosar concluded his statement by highlighting the benefits of H.R. 4821 for Arizona, including safeguarding jobs and promoting energy independence. He also emphasized the elimination of what he believes to be destructive regulations imposed by the Biden administration.
With his support for this legislation, Congressman Gosar aims to undo what he considers reckless spending and woke policies and to protect the interests of Arizonans.
