Washington, DC -- Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), has demanded answers from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding the recent closure of the Lukeville Port of Entry (POE) in Arizona. The closure of this port has raised concerns about the impact on the local community and the prioritization of illegal aliens over American citizens.
"Lukeville is the fourth highest POE in Arizona for border crossings," stated Congressman Gosar. "Each day, thousands of people rely on moving through the Lukeville POE for various reasons such as work, vacation, study, visiting family, and receiving medical care."
The closure of the Lukeville POE has forced Arizonans to take alternative routes, which have been deemed unsafe by the American Embassy in Mexico. Congressman Gosar expressed his concerns, saying, "Now Arizonans must go out of their way and drive over 200 miles from Lukeville on routes deemed unsafe by the American Embassy in Mexico."
While the Biden administration welcomes and accommodates illegal aliens, Congressman Gosar argues that the closure of the Lukeville POE demonstrates a clear prioritization of illegal aliens over American citizens. He stated, "The administration is making it clear it prioritizes illegal aliens over American citizens by closing the Lukeville Port of Entry."
Congressman Gosar has raised several important questions and demands answers from the CBP regarding the closure of the Lukeville POE. He wants to know the reasoning behind the decision, who made this decision, and why Lukeville was closed instead of a less active port of entry. Additionally, he seeks information about the plan to reopen the Lukeville POE and why more time was not given to warn citizens about the closure.
Expressing his respect for the border patrol agents, Congressman Gosar emphasized the need for a timely and reasonable response from the CBP. He stated, "I expect a timely and reasonable response from CBP explaining their decision to continue rewarding lawbreakers while turning their back on American citizens."
In response to the closure of the Lukeville POE, Congressman Gosar has sent a letter to CBP Commissioner Troy Miller and Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin of the Tucson CBP Field Office. In this letter, he demanded answers to the imprudent closure that has impacted more than 3,100 people who rely on the Lukeville POE on a daily basis.
The closure of the Lukeville Port of Entry has raised serious concerns about the impact on the local community and the prioritization of illegal aliens over American citizens. Congressman Gosar's demand for answers reflects the frustration felt by many who believe that the closure of this port sends the wrong message about the administration's priorities.
