Tempe, AZ - Tempe is expanding its free workforce development services to help businesses fill positions.
The new Business Services Representative, offered in partnership with ARIZONA@WORK Maricopa County, will work directly with employers to explore what talent they need in the pipeline, what jobs they need to fill right now and what more is needed to help bolster the local labor pool. By helping businesses succeed and grow, this position lays the groundwork for a stronger Arizona economy.
“The City of Tempe is committed to helping the local business community fill any gaps in their talent pipeline,” said Director of Community Health and Human Services Tim Burch. “Through this position, Tempe will be able to continue attracting high-quality businesses and ensuring their success, which shows a commitment to supporting our residents and workforce.”
In addition to this full-time Business Services Representative role, Tempe job seekers are supported through the Workforce Development Coordinator role, also co-funded in partnership with ARIZONA@WORK. Through that role, the city offers Tempe job fairs regularly during the year, including one in October that drew nearly 160 job seekers. A wide range of services are available to job seekers, including providing career guidance and assessments, customized training, education and skills development, and directing them to social services, if needed.
These services work in conjunction with the city’s Tempe Works program, which provides supportive employment for unsheltered people. Launched in 2018, Tempe Works has assisted roughly 80 men and women with employment and connections to resources such as shelter and housing.
Expanding workforce development programs and services not only improves quality of life but fosters economic growth.
“Investing in Tempe’s workforce development is not just about filling open positions; it’s about building a resilient and prosperous future for our communities,” said CEO/President of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Colin Diaz. “By developing a workforce armed with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of today’s economy, we benefit by inspiring innovation that promotes economic growth.”
