CHANDLER, Ariz. - From student leaders and change-making educators, innovative employers, and hard-working employees to outstanding volunteers, Chandler’s Disability Awareness Awards allows the community to share and recognize deserving individuals and inspire others.
The Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities is seeking nominations for the 2024 Disability Awareness Awards. Applications are available online at Disability Awareness Awards starting today and are due by Sunday, Feb. 4. The awards are free to enter and open to all Chandler community members.
The five categories include:
- Student of the Year Award
Given to a student who has excelled beyond their apparent limitations.
- Educator of the Year Award
Given to an individual who has worked in the field of training or educating people with disabilities.
- Volunteer of the Year Award
Given to an individual who has contributed consistent and outstanding service to people with disabilities.
- Employee of the Year Award
Given to an employee who has overcome barriers and has excelled in the performance of their work.
- Employer of the Year
Given to an employer who is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace and empowering employees with disabilities.
Guidelines are available online, including the official nomination form and supplemental details that describe the specific accomplishments and contributions that qualify the nominee for the award.
Award recipients will be honored by Mayor Kevin Hartke and Chandler City Council during the Thursday, Feb. 22 Council Meeting.
The Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities advise Council and staff on essential policies, rules and regulations relating to advocacy issues experienced by the disabled of the community, such as accessibility, education and employment.
Members serve as advocates for those in the community with physical and mental disabilities, birth defects, injuries sustained due to accidents, illnesses and age-related disabilities.
The awards take place ahead of Disability Awareness Month, recognized by the City of Chandler annually in the month of March.
