The Cooper Road/Insight Way Loop Extension project in Chandler, Arizona has entered the design phase after being funded by the city's Special Bond Election. The Chandler City Council awarded a Professional Services Agreement to AZTEC Engineering Group, Inc., for the design services of the project with a budget of $699,272.18.
This project, which was added to the 2022-2032 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) after being highly rated by bond subcommittees, holds great significance for transportation, economic development, and aviation in the area. It will greatly enhance the development prospects of the south side of Chandler Municipal Airport in accordance with the City Council-approved Airport Master Plan. The project will include a new southern entrance to the airport, providing access to future development and hangars.
According to a pre-design study, the improvements will involve a full-width roadway segment connecting Cooper Road to the Insight Way and Emmett Drive intersection, as well as half-street improvements on Emmett Drive south to Queen Creek Road. The roads will be upgraded to a collector street standard, including asphalt pavement, curb, gutter, sidewalk, streetlights, landscaping, and utility relocations.
Construction for the project is expected to commence in the fall of 2025, following the completion of the design process.
"Once the design process is complete, construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2025," said the official statement.
