Step 2 - Article:
This week, Representative Gosar spoke passionately on the House Floor in support of the Western Economic Security Act (WEST Act). He criticized past Democrat administrations, stating, "Starting with Jimmy Carter in 1977, and continuing under Clinton and Obama, Democrat administrations have aggressively attempted to shut down public use and access to federal lands." Gosar emphasized Congress's authority over federal lands, saying, "Only Congress has authority over federal lands and territories in the United States."
Regarding the Biden administration's actions, Gosar pointed out, "Since his first day in office, Joe Biden has abused his authority to add large swaths of acreage to the federal estate while ignoring the concerns of local communities and stakeholders." He further expressed Arizonans' opposition to rules that block access to public lands, stating, "Arizonans don’t want another rule that blocks access to public lands."
In another instance, Gosar highlighted his stance on free speech, stating, "Since first taking office, I have made it clear that I will not knowingly vote for an unconstitutional law, even a law that is well-intentioned." He emphasized the importance of the First Amendment, pointing out, "The First Amendment states that: 'Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech....'"
Gosar also condemned Hamas and its supporters, saying, "Let me be crystal clear: I find the Hamas terrorists to be a scourge upon the Earth and the people in our country supporting Hamas are wrong and immoral." He referenced the recent vote against limitations on free speech, aligning with the belief that even abhorrent speech is protected by the Constitution.
In a different light, Representative Gosar welcomed Efrain Casillas, the 2024 Arizona Teacher of the Year, to Washington, D.C., commending his dedication to education. Additionally, he addressed the economic challenges faced by Arizonans, stating, "A new report issued this week by the Joint Economic Committee notes that the average Arizona household must spend $1,171 more each month to maintain the same living standard they had in January 2021."
Gosar's strong stance on various issues and his unwavering support for constitutional rights and fiscal responsibility continue to shape his actions and decisions in Congress.
