Congressman Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09) announced the winners of Arizona's Ninth Congressional District Art Competition over the past weekend. This annual contest, which began in 1982 and has seen participation from over 650,000 individuals since its inception, aims to recognize the best art produced by high school students each year. The winners were chosen by a panel of local judges, while the "People's Choice" winner was determined through online voting.
The artist who clinched first place is invited to attend an annual awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C., and their artwork will be displayed for one year on the wall in the walkway between the Cannon House Office Building and the United States Capitol. The second-place artwork will be showcased in Congressman Gosar's office in D.C., while the third-place artwork will find a home in his district office located in Goodyear. All winners are set to receive scholarship funds from Mohave Community College.
Jayden Sheaffere secured first place with his piece titled "Art Block," created using color pencils. Abagail Acosta took second place with her "Realism Animal Eye Portrait," also made with Prismacolor pencils. Parker Fisher claimed third place with his "Sedona Skyline," rendered using Prismacolor pencils as well.
An honorable mention was given to Rosela Limas for her work titled "In a Box," crafted using gouache paints. The People’s Choice Award went to Tyler Wang for his mixed computer-generated and colored pencil piece called “Reminiscence.”
All winning artists hail from Arizona, studying at various schools including Highland Prep, Valley Vista High School, Dysart High School, and Trivium Preparatory Academy.
