Washington, D.C.—Congressman Paul A. Gosar (AZ-09) and Senator Kyrsten Sinema have introduced H.R. 8517, the La Paz County Solar Energy and Job Creation Act. This legislation aims to transfer 3,400 acres of federal land to La Paz County for renewable energy generation and storage, enhancing the local tax base and fostering economic development.

“I am proud to join Senator Sinema in introducing the La Paz County Solar Energy and Job Creation Act,” stated Congressman Gosar. “This critical legislation builds upon the success of the La Paz County Land Conveyance Act, which I introduced and was enacted into law in 2019. My latest bill focuses on creating and expanding a job and energy hub in La Paz County.”

Gosar emphasized that the proposed conveyance includes parcels not covered by the previous act as well as additional lands suitable for clean energy development. He highlighted La Paz County's efforts in renewable energy through sustainable solar power.

“These efforts deserve to be supported and expanded,” he added. “Empowering local governments to make their own land management decisions minimizes federal influence, addressing community needs more effectively.”

Duce Minor, Chairman of La Paz County Board of Supervisors, District 2, expressed gratitude for the legislation: “This vital legislation ensures La Paz County can be home to the largest solar project in the nation, bringing new jobs and significant economic development opportunities.” Minor also noted an important partnership with the Colorado River Indian Tribes aimed at preserving tribal artifacts during development.

Holly Irwin, Vice Chair of La Paz County Supervisor, District 3, remarked on the economic benefits: “La Paz County is uniquely positioned to support renewable energy development. As a result of this bill, our community will have access to good-paying jobs for years to come.”

David Plunkett, La Paz County Supervisor for District 1, concluded by stating: “The La Paz County Solar Energy and Job Creation Act will provide lasting and significant benefits for our community and region. The county applauds Congressman Gosar for introducing this critical legislation.”
