Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), issued a statement following his vote for H.R. 9494, the Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act of 2025. The legislation extends federal government funding through March 28, 2025, and includes the SAVE Act, which mandates states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering individuals to vote in federal elections, including mail-in voting.

“Voters are overwhelmingly concerned about the integrity of elections and rightfully so," stated Gosar. "Recent news reports note several states have identified hundreds of illegal immigrants registered to vote."

Gosar cited various examples: "In Texas, Governor Abbott recently announced the removal of more than one million ineligible voters, including over 6,500 illegal aliens. Ohio’s Secretary of State referred nearly 150 illegal aliens for prosecution after identifying 600 lawbreakers registered to vote despite not being citizens. Virginia Governor Youngkin recently removed 6,300 illegals from voter rolls as part of nearly 80,000 voter registrations removed. In Oregon, election officials admitted this week that more than 300 non-citizens were also mistakenly registered to vote."

He emphasized that only legal voters have the right to participate in American elections: "States across the country are facing the daunting reality that illegal immigrants are showing up on their voting rolls," he said. According to the Only Citizens Vote Coalition, there are nearly 22 million potential non-citizen voters in the United States due largely to what Gosar describes as "Biden-Harris open border policies." Additionally, he pointed out that Washington D.C., along with 19 states, issues driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

"Voting is a fundamental right extended only to American citizens and is at the heart of our republic," Gosar continued. He argued that the SAVE Act would restore election integrity by ensuring only American citizens can vote.

"With 13 million lawbreakers pouring across Border Czar Kamala Harris’ open border," Gosar concluded, "this legislation is a crucial step towards ensuring our elections are fair and honest and that is why I voted in favor of a short-term funding bill that includes the SAVE Act."
