A proposed mining expansion that will provide an economic boost as well as security for 150 employees has been approved.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) provided approval of the Moss Mine expansion east of Bullhead City. It will impact 497 acres of public land next to Golden Vertex Corp.’s gold and silver mining operation. Expansion comes on the heels of a 30-day public comment session that spanned the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020.
A BLM review indicated a “decision record and finding of no significant impact” based on analysis which included environmental impact. BLM Colorado River District Manager William Mack Jr. said expansion along with “incorporated environmental protection measures demonstrates BLM’s commitment to facilitating responsible mineral development in Arizona,” in a press release in the Mojave Valley News.
The request submitted by Golden Vertex includes roads and infrastructure along with an open pit mine among other additions.
Permission has also been granted to Golden Vertex for exploratory drilling.
