Lake Havasu Unified School District #1 issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.

The Student Achievement coaches have been hard at work already this year, coaching LHUSD teachers and ensuring students are learning lesson objectives and skills. Each of these coaches has a history of teaching within our community and a wealth of knowledge in academic instruction.

LHUSD wants to highlight our Student Achievement staff, starting with Marsha Becker – our CTE Coordinator.

FAVORITE SUBJECT TO TEACH AND WHY: “My favorite subject to teach is Medical Terminology. This is the only class I still teach to high school students. It keeps me grounded with the expectations placed on the CTE teachers. They know what I ask of them in the classroom is also being followed by myself. As far as why I love this class, it’s because I get to interact with Lake Havasu High School (LHHS) students!!! I am passionate about ensuring success for every student who walks through the doors of LHHS! We are all supporting each other and continue working towards improvement.”

YEAR’S TEACHING/YEARS WITH DISTRICT: “This is the start of my 23rd year at LHHS. I bleed purple and gold. I taught Physical Education for 15 of those years. I have supported the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department for the past seven years as the CTE Coordinator for LHHS, WAVE, and CTED.”

GOALS FOR THE YEAR: “We are moving and shaking in CTE! We have a goal to implement Major Clarity, an online computer system that will help students make decisions about their potential future profession and the overall course pathway they may want to take at LHHS. I want to increase our student numbers for concurrent enrollment at Arizona Western College and Mohave Community College. Students can qualify to take many of the courses towards an industry certification for free! Lastly, I would like to continue to grow the relationship between the CTE department and the Lake Havasu Chamber. We have an internship program called Career Exploration Internship (CEI), where our high school students are partnered with local businesses to intern. I want LHHS students to know that there are opportunities for growth and success right here in Lake Havasu. We need to continue growing as a community and keep our bright LHHS graduates close in Lake Havasu City.”

HOBBY: “Golfing, watching or playing sports, and reading books in the summer.
