The Mohave County Department of Public Health’s “AZ Health Zone” invites the public to become more self-reliant by growing food at home. “A garden is a way to state: ‘I want variety. I want taste. I want the convenience,” said Zen Mocarski, health education specialist with AZ Health Zone, adding “there’s nothing quite like eating food moments after harvest.” The Seed to Supper gardening program returns to Kingman January 14, 21, and 28 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Kingman Mohave County Library, 3269 N. Burbank St. 

Each week includes two, separate one-hour presentations. The classes are a progression, designed for one to build on the other. There is no cost to participants and the three-week series will take each individual from vegetable/fruit garden development to harvest. The program can benefit first-time gardeners and those with more experience as well. Mocarski says “there are challenges to growing food in Mohave County and it is our goal to help residents grow healthy, great-tasting food.” The series is open to the public, of course, but seating is limited to 100, which will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. AZ Health Zone will be conducting future programs in Golden Shores, Bullhead and Lake Havasu cities, and virtually too.
