City of Chandler won eight national awards for video productions

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler Digital Media Division was recently honored with awards from two prestigious video competitions: the 44th Annual Telly Awards and the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) 38th Annual Government Programming Awards.

This year, Chandler’s Digital Media Division won four Telly Awards and four NATOA Awards.

“Ostrich World,” a video created for the 2023 State of the City event, won a Silver Telly and a NATOA Award of Excellence, both in the Visual Effects category. Courtney Randolph and Julie Carpenter, digital media principal producers, worked on this this project. “Ostrich World” was in good company – the music video for Ed Sheeran’s song, “2Step” also won a Silver Telly in this category.

“Home Rule,” created by Courtney Randolph, won a Silver Telly in the Government Relations category and an Award of Distinction in the NATOA Election Coverage category. The Home Rule video explained Proposition 470, a measure that was on the Chandler ballot in August 2022.

Julie Carpenter won a Silver Telly in the Motivational category for her work on the “Chandler Changemakers” video. This video highlighted Mayor Kevin Hartke's initiative to showcase people who are making a difference in Chandler and around the world.

The “Ag Town to Tech City” video, created by Melina Zuniga, digital media senior producer, won a Bronze Telly in the History category and an Award of Honor in the NATOA Historical category. This video looked back at Chandler through the decades from its roots in agriculture to the high-tech industries that call it home today.

The “Chandler Police Department Recruitment” video won an Award of Excellence in the Event/Program Promotion category. This video was created for an advertising campaign to assist Chandler Police promote their job opportunities both in and outside of Arizona. It was created by the entire Digital Media Division, Courtney Randolph, Julie Carpenter, Melina Zuniga, Stacy Sacco, digital media manager, and Edmundo Mendez, digital media producer.

The Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies including Adobe, BBC World Service and ESPN Films. The 44th Telly Awards competition had nearly 13,000 entries from five continents and 50 countries.

Winners include some of the most prominent global brands and companies alongside smaller and independent production houses, including Netflix, Disney, Paramount and National Geographic Society.

NATOA honored the winners of the 38th Annual Government Programming Awards during their annual conference. The NATOA awards honor excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. This year NATOA received more than 950 entries.
