What if Alzheimer’s could be predicted and prevented before it was too late? Learn how blood tests and genetic testing could transform the disease’s diagnosis and treatment from researchers and experts at the 7th Annual Dementia Friendly Tempe Summit, Saturday, Nov. 18, 9 a.m. -12:15 p.m., Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave. in Tempe. The public can register for this free event at dftsummit.eventbrite.com.
“We are so proud to be a designated Dementia-Friendly Community and Age-Friendly Community to expand opportunities for better health and well-being in Tempe,” said Tim Burch, the city’s Community Health and Human Services director. “This year’s summit advances our work, giving our community access to a range of experts to learn more about innovations in Alzheimer’s diagnosis and treatment.”
The panel will discuss and take questions on topics that include:
The emerging role of Alzheimer’s blood tests in diagnosis and treatment.
The future of Alzheimer’s Disease genetic testing and counseling.
The ethics of knowing your status from Alzheimer’s biomarker blood tests.
The speakers include:
Katherine Hunt Brendish, director of the Genetic Counseling Program and clinical professor.
Dr. Dani Cabral, dual board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist specializing in Alzheimer’s and related dementia, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry.
Jason Robert, philosopher and ethicist in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University.
Shelley Riha, Alzheimer’s prevention clinical trial participant.
