CHANDLER, AZ - In a remarkable milestone for the Chandler Police Department, 2023 has etched its place in history as having the lowest recorded serious crime rate on record. With a notable 18% decrease in serious crimes from the previous year and a crime index at its lowest in over 40 years, the results are evidence of the successful community-focused policing strategies implemented under the leadership of Police Chief Sean Duggan.

"This is a big win for the whole community. Our commitment to building trust, leveraging technology, and fostering meaningful partnerships helped pave the way for this historic low in crime rates. This is also a testament to the dedication of our officers and the unwavering support we have received from our community, proving that together we can create a safer and stronger Chandler for all," said Duggan.

Duggan attributes the steady decline in crime rates to five key policing objectives. The first objective is earning trust by recognizing each contact with a member of the community as an opportunity to earn their confidence, support, and respect, with the understanding that the police cannot be successful without the consent of the public.

The second objective is using technology to police smarter and more effectively by concentrating on active "hotspots" and violent offenders identified through sound data analysis. By leveraging technology, the police department can allocate resources more efficiently and target areas where crimes are more likely to occur.

The third objective is providing effective training and equipment to officers and adhering to the highest standards of performance. Well-trained and equipped officers are better prepared to handle various situations and ensure public safety.

The fourth objective is ensuring leadership and accountability at the precinct and bureau levels. Strong leadership is crucial in maintaining a disciplined and efficient police force, and accountability ensures that officers are held responsible for their actions.

The fifth and final objective is developing meaningful relations with regional and federal law enforcement partners. By collaborating with other law enforcement agencies, the Chandler Police Department can leverage additional resources, training, and expertise to enhance their crime-fighting capabilities.

The success of these innovative policing strategies has resulted in a safer and stronger Chandler. The commitment to building trust, using technology effectively, providing training and equipment, ensuring leadership and accountability, and developing meaningful relationships with other law enforcement agencies has paid off in the form of record-breaking crime rate reductions.

The achievement of the lowest recorded serious crime rate in Chandler's history is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Chandler Police Department, under the leadership of Police Chief Sean Duggan. The support and cooperation of the community have also played a crucial role in this milestone. Together, the police department and the community have demonstrated that through collaborative efforts, a safer and more secure Chandler can be achieved.

The residents of Chandler can take pride in their city's achievement and can have confidence in the commitment of their police department to continue implementing innovative strategies to maintain public safety and well-being.
