Chandler, Arizona - The Chandler City Council has taken a significant step towards the creation of its newest park, Mesquite Groves. The council recently approved a professional services agreement with J2 Engineering & Environmental Design, LLC, for the development of the Mesquite Groves Park Design Concept Services. The agreement is valued at $155,042.
The idea for Mesquite Groves Park was conceived in 2002 when the City of Chandler acquired 100 acres of land on the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Riggs Road. In 2008, the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center was built on a portion of the park site. However, with the growing population in southeast Chandler, there has been a need for additional recreational facilities to cater to the residents in the area. The development of Mesquite Groves Park was identified as a high priority in the Parks Strategic Master Plan of 2021, and it was also one of the most requested items in a resident survey.
The approved professional services agreement with J2 Engineering & Environmental Design, LLC will involve reviewing and updating the existing master plan for the park, which was created in 2009. The project will also involve soliciting public input to ensure that the ideas, issues, and concerns of the residents are taken into consideration. The public input process is expected to begin in the spring of 2024.
The Mesquite Groves Park project will be carried out in three phases, which will be determined during the conceptual design phase. This approach will ensure that the park is developed in a manner that best meets the needs and desires of the community. Chandler residents can look forward to a park that offers a wide range of recreational opportunities and amenities.
Speaking about the project, Mayor Kevin Hartke stated, "Mesquite Groves Park is an exciting addition to our city's parks system. We are committed to providing our residents with high-quality recreational spaces, and this park will be no exception. The public input process will allow us to incorporate the ideas and suggestions of our community, ensuring that the park truly reflects their needs and desires."
Residents of Chandler are encouraged to visit the parks in Chandler webpage for more information about the Mesquite Groves Park project. They can also contact Toni Smith, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the City of Chandler, at 480-782-2701 for media inquiries.
As the development of Mesquite Groves Park moves forward, Chandler continues to position itself as a city that prioritizes the well-being and recreational needs of its residents. With its dedication to innovation and community engagement, Chandler remains a great place to live, work, and play.
