Mohave Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.

Ten Mohave Community College employees were among just 100 college employees from across the country chosen to take part in a two-week virtual conference hosted by the Community College Research Center from Columbia University (CCRC).

The conference assisted employees with building skills and knowledge needed to lead college-wide success efforts using a guided pathways framework.  The guided pathways help students choose, enter and complete college programs aligned with their goals for careers and further education.

“We can help every student make a purposeful program choice and build connections within the college community to ensure that every student takes an inspiring course in their first term,” said Rosemarie LeFebvre, Associate Dean of Student Success and Retention.

The focus of the institute was on reimaging student onboarding into a program of study. Staff learned a new acronym, ACIP, to help reimagine academic program onboarding experiences for students.

  • Ask every student about their interests, strengths and aspirations.
  • Connect them with faculty, students, alumni and others with similar interests.
  • Inspire learning in term one through “light-the-fire” college level courses on issues of interests.
  • Help every student develop an individualized education plan aligned to jobs/transfer in their field of interest by the end of the first term.

Staff that attended the July conference are as follows: Dr. Kirk Lacy, Dean Workforce and Strategic Partnership Development; Candace Hofstadter, Business Faculty; Tracy Gift, Director Dental Programs; Jason Gee, Associate Dean of Instruction, CTE Programs; Natalie Gebicke, Director of Advising and Testing; Kay Lynn Trybus, Director of Student Success Centers; Matt Butcher, Director of Institutional Research; Shelly Castaneda, Assistant Director of Institutional Research; Rosemarie LeFebvre, Associate Dean of Student Success and Retention; Dr. Stephanie Dieringer, Associate Dean of Instruction, Lake Havasu Campus.
