Eight MCC students honored as All Arizona Academic Team Members

Mohave Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.

Mohave Community College would like to congratulate eight students, David Mendez, Wendy Gustafson, Adam Romano, Brooke Prochaska, Justin Begay, Lucy Nelson, Crystal Covault and Brenda Carrillo for being selected as All Arizona Academic Team members.

All Arizona Academic Team members in the transfer category receive a full tuition scholarship to any public university in Arizona after they graduate MCC. The scholarship covers resident tuition for 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 credits for the fall and spring semesters.

Lake Havasu Campus

Prochaska, LHC surgical technology student and All Arizona Academic Team member – Workforce, was awarded the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholarship. She is awarded a $1,250 scholarship that she can use to finish her associate degree, obtain a certification, or purchase trade-specific items needed to enter the workforce. At MCC, she is a Surgical Technology student, secretary for the Surgical Technologists Club and lives in Lake Havasu City.

Begay is majoring in Social and Behavioral Science at MCC. He is also part of the Veterans Club, Psyched Out Club, treasurer of Phi Theta Kappa and active member of Student Activities Council. He lives in Lake Havasu City.

Romano is majoring in Fine Arts and has lived in Lake Havasu City since 1998. He is the President of the Student Art League and Vice President of Scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa.

Bullhead Campus

Mendez is majoring in Liberal Arts and lives in Bullhead City with his wife Vanessa. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa – Alpha Chi Psi Bullhead City campus chapter.

Gustafson is majoring in Social and Behavioral Science and lives in Topock, AZ. She is part of the Phi Theta Kappa – Alpha Chi Psi Bullhead City campus chapter.

“To have been nominated and selected to receive the All Arizona Academic Team Scholarship and represent Mohave Community College is an honor and a source of great pride for me,” Gustafson said. “It was a complete surprise when I was nominated and I’m thrilled to have been chosen and looking forward to starting my bachelor’s degree at ASU in the fall.”

Neal Campus – Kingman

Nelson is majoring in Nursing and has lived in Kingman since 2018. She hopes to one day become an operating room nurse.

Covault is majoring in Education and has lived in Kingman for 22 years. On her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren.

North Mohave Campus

Carrillo is majoring in Nursing at MCC. She is also part of the Phi Theta Kappa – Beta Eta Tau North Mohave chapter. She is from Mesquite, Nevada.

“I was in awe but I felt extremely honored to receive this opportunity to continue my learning after graduation it still feels too good to be true,” Carrillo said.

MCC is currently enrolling students in summer and fall semester classes.  Those interested in improving their lives through higher education and advanced career training should start by filling out the free online application at Apply.Mohave.edu or call 1-866-MOHAVECC for assistance.  All the college campuses are also open so new and returning students can meet in person with college student services employees, including advisors.
