Mohave Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.

Mohave Community College Lake Havasu campus would like to congratulate Adam Romano, Justin Begay and Brooke Prochaska on being selected to represent the college as an All Arizona Academic Team member.

All Arizona Academic Team members in the transfer category receive a full tuition scholarship to any public university in Arizona after they graduate MCC. The scholarship covers resident tuition for 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 credits for the fall and spring semesters.

Prochaska, LHC surgical technology student and All Arizona Academic Team member – Workforce, was awarded the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholarship. She is awarded a $1,250 scholarship that she can use to finish her associate degree, obtain a certification, or purchase trade-specific items needed to enter the workforce.   

Romano, an All Arizona Academic Team member – transfer, is majoring in Fine Arts at MCC. He then plans to transfer to Arizona State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in museum studies. Romano also plans to obtain a master’s degree in painting from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR.

“Receiving the All Arizona Academic Team scholarship feels surreal it feels like recognition for all my arduous work and it’s just the beginning,” Romano said. “To know that others have evaluated my performance and awarded me with this honor means that I must be doing something right and it will allow me to pursue my goals.”

After completing his educational goals, he will continue being an artist. He hopes to one day work as a curator for The Portland Art Museum, as well as, becoming an art and art history college professor. Romano was born in Chicago and moved to Lake Havasu City in 1998. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and family. He enjoys traveling, watching movies, walks with his dog, creating art work, volunteering and organizing community events.

Begay, an All Arizona Academic Team member – transfer, is majoring in Social and Behavioral Science. After graduating from MCC, he will transfer to Arizona State University at Lake Havasu where he will work to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“I was excited, I couldn’t have accomplished any of this without the excellent faculty at MCC, who not only gave me my academic foundation but also provided essential resources on site, such as time management and study skills through various workshops throughout the semester,” he said.

Begay is undecided if he wants to work in a clinical or research setting in the psychology field. He was born in Kingman and was raised in Lake Havasu City and graduated from Lake Havasu High School. Begay is a U.S. Navy veteran and was honorably discharged after nine years of service. On his free time, he enjoys watching documentaries, reading historical publications, and traveling and learning about different cultures. 

Prochaska is working toward earning her Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology. After graduating from MCC, she plans to jump right into being a surgical technologist. After working in the field for a few years, she hopes to go back to school to become a Surgical First Assist.

“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and it motivates me to do better and try harder,” Prochaska said. “I honestly didn’t believe it at first and didn’t realize the opportunity I was given until I had to get my photo taken and that’s when I knew it was real.”

She was born in California and has lived in Lake Havasu City for 20 years. Prochaska graduated from Lake Havasu High School in 2014. She is the secretary for the Surgical Technology club. On her spare time, she enjoys playing softball, travel and spending time with family and friends.
