Mohave Community College issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.
Three Mohave Community College students are among the best in the nation for their academic excellence. The Coca-Cola Foundation just announced it has chosen MCC students Adam Romano, Wendy Gustafson and Brooke Prochaska as national Coca-Cola Academic scholars.
Romano, a Mohave Community College – Lake Havasu campus student, is among only 50 students in country to be named a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Romano is a Fine Arts student at MCC and an All-Arizona Academic Team member. He plans to transfer to Arizona State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in museum studies.
“I’m extremely honored and appreciative of the recognition that is being placed upon me by becoming a Gold Scholar on the 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team. This award will continue to reinforce my commitment to academia,” Romano said. “As I keep moving toward my educational goals this award will constantly be a reminder that I must try as hard as I can to learn, grow and exceed in all my classes.”
Romano added that this is an award is tremendously beneficial as it will be put toward books and art supplies so it can continue his educational growth in fine art, and help alleviate financial burdens.
Gustafson, a Mohave Community College – Bullhead City campus student, is among only 50 students in the country named a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.
Gustafson is a Social and Behavioral Science student at MCC. She is planning to transfer to Arizona State University where she will earn her bachelor’s degree in Women and Gender Studies. Her career goals are to work in youth behavioral and prevention because she enjoys helping youth overcome challenges during their most vulnerable years.
“I’m beyond grateful to have been selected as a Silver Scholar on Coca-Cola’s 2022 Academic Team,” Gustafson said. “I will use this award to further my education in Women’s and Gender Studies, where I desire to be of service to the youth of our local community.”
Prochaska, a Surgical Technology student, is the only student in Arizona to be named a 2022 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation.
She will receive a $1,250 scholarship that she can use toward finishing her associate’s degree to help her transition into the workforce by paying for any supplies or certifications.
“This award means so much to me and makes me feel as though I’m headed in the right direction with my career. I plan on using this scholarship to finish my associate’s degree and pay for my board exams,” Prochaska said. “This takes a lot of weight off my shoulders since I’m unable to work full time while traveling out of town for clinicals and I’m extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity.”
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.
Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.
The college is currently enrolling students in summer and fall semesters. Those interested in attending the college should start by visiting Mohave.edu/EnrollNow. Applying to become an MCC student is free, and student services employees will assist everyone through the application and enrollment process. Tuition assistance is also available.
